Web Languages

If you are looking for an all around web designer with skills in many web designing languages and a strong work ethic you may be interested in inviting me to your company. Every job I have had has been a long term commitment where I have always excelled through the ranks quickly. This page goes over what the languages are and how I rate myself at the bottom. To see examples of what I can do especially in PHP and MySql head over to my code page.

I have worked for www.virtualcreations.biz in the USA for five years and am currently employed at www.newstin.com. Where out of 30 employees I handle all the HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, Jquery, and Freemarker. I bring alive the ideas of the design department and implement functions from the Java developers.

From here you should head over to my code page and see code that I have written downloadable in pdf format or readable by you right from this website.

HTML is the fundamental skill of every web design language. It is very important to have a clear understanding of this skill before learning anything else. With just HTML you can create a very nice website but it is not powerful enough to handle much more then a simple personal site. Most languages all they really do in the end is generate HTML code.
HTML is an extremely easy language to start but knowing everything about it takes a little bit of time. I know that using built in HTML styles that I can make a page load quicker. For example use an h1 tag for big text or the sub for raised text. The same functionality can be done with CSS but there are times knowing html extremely well can improve browser performance. I find allot of developers shying away from the html tags and using CSS but you are wasting the built in CSS styles that every browser has.
I have advanced knowledge of HTML.
Javascript is code that runs on the visitors computer. At first Javascript had a hard time getting off the ground because people became scared and shut this feature off. However now that the big guys have started using the power of Javascript almost every user has this turned on now. Javascript brings allot of power to a website and really can make it flow. You can have pop-up boxes mouse over effects alter the users mouse pointer and much more.
Javascript can be dangerous however and you have to remember some users do not have it so its nice to have a way for your site to be usable for these people also. If written sloppy or overused it can impact performance for visitors with slow computers.
I am an efficient Javascript coder and use this heavily on the sites that I create.
Ajax is an advanced portion of Javascript. It allows the code to run on the users computer and communicate back with your server. This allows things to function without a page reload. Using Ajax can improve page load times and make a site very fluent. Ajax is showing up more and more on sites but some shy away from it because Go ogle will not index this information and can impact your web sites ranking.
For instance Ajax is used for Google Maps. Could you imagine without AJAX having to refresh every time you scrolled the map or zoomed in. Ajax however is very complicated from a coders perspective and debugging it is almost impossible.
To learn AJAX I wrote the entire back end of my site The Blog Galaxy with AJAX. You can see how fluent it is and how it has some very nice effects. The initial page load is very fast and only the information the user needs is grabbed from the server without a page reload.
I am very skilled in the use of Ajax
PHP is an open source language that is also my favorite. It can fluently power databases, handle cookies, and make very dynamic sites. It is used on a majority of the websites you visit on the Internet.
PHP is very fast and powerful and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to create a site. All of the sites I have written the core is done in this language. I have the skills in this language that you need for powering your interactive website. Please check out my code section for examples of my PHP abilities.
Also do not forget to check out the Freemarker section on page 2 for a good example of my PHP skills I have been working at newstin.com using this similiar to PHP language and you can view a snippet of code.
I am very skilled in the use of PHP
MySQL is a database engine that is powerful for storing your companies information. Whether its handling your 10,000 users information or storing a log of all your visitors with the power of PHP and MySQL Let me show you what I can do for you. I am able to install MySQL create databases and create a web page just for you to handle information for you.
I have fairly good knowledge of MySQL
Jquery is a Javascript library that brings a lot of power to Javascript, power that I didn't even think possible with this language. Coders everywhere are using this language to handle all of their Javascript code and add most power to there code.
Jquery can organize your code in much simpler ways and decrease page transmission times by saving text, instead of having to type for each element on your site. I would love to show you the power of Jquery and welcome you to check out some of my code.
The site you are looking at now relies heavily on Jquery and I think you should check out the code that power this site by going to the Code Page and just taking a look at how efficiently and clean the Javascript on this page is.
If you are not familiar with Jquery but have skills in Javascript you will find that link very interesting when you can really see what it would take to use Javascript instead of Jquery.
I am proficient and very skilled in the use of Jquery.
CSS and HTML are really the fundamental skills for a website. I do not enjoy this language and wish there was an alternative but I am extremely skilled in CSS. CSS powers the look of your website. It's what makes things line up provide color and much more. There are not many websites that do not use this language.
CSS when coded properly can be very friendly. It can make altering your website's appearance as simple as a couple keystrokes. When coded properly it can reduce your sites page load times incredibly and allow you to repeatedly change the appearance at any time easily.
I am extremely skilled in this language. I am familiar with CSS sprites hover effects and pride myself on having skills that can make your site work in any browser. This language can cause bugs very easily for your visitors without my skills of lots of cross browser testing and ability to code with strict W3C standards.
I am an expert in CSS. Can tell you every parameter of CSS and what it does off the top of my head. I can also code it in a very efficient manor.
Freemarker works nicely by separating the jobs of different coders skills. It plays very nicely with Java. This is not a common language but I am the lead Freemarker designer at Newstin. The Java coders there do not know Freemarker well but when I ask for some data They provide it to me and I use Freemarker to handle this.
I can code in Freemarker very efficiently
I am extremely skilled in this Operating System. I ran my own computer repair business for 8 Years where I would do on-site repair for customers. I can troubleshoot any problem, improve performance, handle new installations, and determine any upgrades that may be needed. If you need someone for your company with advanced skills knowledge you can get more information on my skills on my example page and read the old website that powered my business on my Examples page.
I have been using Linux at both work and home for a long time. This is my favorite operating system and I am comfortable in several interfaces. I find myself most comfortable in the terminal. I can setup from the command line a web server, modify Xorg, fstab, drivers and much more. I am familiar with networking, extreme skills in SSH, midnight commander and much more.
KDE is one of several front ends for Linux I have very good skills here.
Gnome is the most popular of interfaces and my favorite but I still prefer to avoid interfaces and stick to the terminal.
The terminal really allows a Linux user to do extremely powerful things with their computer. It is the back end to any Linux computer and to really handle Linux most users will find themselves here. I prefer setting up permissions handling my files setting up drivers etc from the terminal. I can see debug output for things check logs easily and maintain my computer easier here.
SSH is secure shell. Users that know the terminal and wish to work on at a remote location will use this program. There is little setup needed and the speed is incredible. You can maintain a web server for instance, transfer files to a remote location, view logs and much more with great proficiency
Networking is important for most business today. You need it to transfer files in an office, share Internet with people, or save money by only having one printer that everyone can use. Network security is important and usually it is also important for a company to have windows, Linux and mac computers all capable of working together. Let me provide the security you need.
The way you communicate with a computer is with the keyboard and mouse. It's important to be able to handle a computer with efficiently and accurately. I can type up to 95 words a minute. I can get around a computer very quickly with shortcuts especially in a Linux environment.
I have full knowledge of how hardware works. I can do repairs, upgrades and much more. I welcome you to check out my examples page to see my former computer business I ran for 8 years. I find myself always tweaking, over clocking and even have used homemade water cooling solutions to my computer at home. Open up a computer and I can explain all the hardware components.
GVIM is a very advanced text editor that I do all of my web coding and typing needs with. I have been using it for a very long time. Web coding is all done in a text editor and I think that a program like this is very important to learn and understand if you want to efficiently handle a website. My productivity has sky rocketed since I started using GVIM for my web designing
Eclipse is used by lots of coders because it has a lot of nice plug-ins to handle several languages. It works very nicely with SVN also.
Popular coding software for PHP developers. I am familiar in this environment.
Apache is the most popular type of web server software. I can set this up for you up and debug problems for you.
SVN is used to handle web coding and can become an important tool for people with multiple developers or people that wish to really track their development. By using this you can see all changes and keep a log of all your old websites which can be essential sometimes in tracking down problems.
